Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out to us here if you cannot find an answer to your question.

What makes Maryville Esthetics different from other beauty schools?

At ME, we’re transforming the traditional beauty school experience. Our mission is to train aestheticians to have deep knowledge, practical expertise, and the confidence to excel in the beauty industry. We focus on preparing you not just for the state board, but for a long-term, successful career.

How does the hybrid learning format work?

Our 20-week program combines the flexibility of online learning with the benefits of in-person training. Three days each week, you’ll attend live, instructor-led online (synchronous) classes to cover theory. The other two days are spent in our Maryville facility for immersive, hands-on skill development. This approach blends convenience with rigorous training, ensuring a well-rounded education.

What is the apprenticeship experience like?

Students spend 50% of their time in a synchronous learning environment led by experienced, licensed educators who are passionate about their success. The other 50% takes place in a hands-on apprenticeship under the guidance of a supervising licensed professional, giving students the opportunity to apply their skills in a real working environment.

Are online hours self-paced or live?

In accordance with Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology regulations, all hours earned outside of the classroom must be completed through synchronous (live) instruction. That means every online theory class at Maryville Esthetics is taught live by licensed instructors, giving you real-time interaction, feedback, and support.

What does “synchronous learning” mean?

Synchronous learning means you attend live, scheduled classes in real time with your instructor and classmates — just like an in-person class, but online. You can ask questions, join discussions, and get immediate feedback, creating an interactive, connected learning experience.

Why doesn’t the Aesthetics program include lash extensions or other certifications?

Our esthetics program is intentionally designed to be a comprehensive, state-approved curriculum that fully prepares students for licensure and a successful career in skincare. Because the program is already robust, we offer specialized certifications — like lash extensions, dermaplaning, and advanced chemical peels — as separate courses. This allows students to focus on core training first, then add advanced skills when they’re ready.

Who can take your certification courses?

Our certification courses are open to students currently enrolled in an aesthetics program as well as licensed estheticians and cosmetologists who are looking to advance their skills and expand their service offerings. Whether you’re still in school or already working in the industry, our courses are designed to elevate your skills and boost your confidence in specialized treatments.

What makes your certification courses different from others?

Our certification courses stand out because they’re taught by a highly experienced, licensed educator with over 10 years in the esthetics and lash industry. These are not quick, cookie-cutter classes — they’re structured, hands-on trainings designed to truly build your confidence and skill level. We prioritize real education, not just handing out certificates, so our students leave ready to offer high-quality services in real-world settings.
